Chris asks…
where to get labeled electrical wire with numbers printed the whole length?
does anybody know of a source for insulated electrical wire that has identifying numbers printed its whole length?
I just repaired an industrial generator, and instead of a rainbow of wires in the loom, they had red for hot, black for ground, and blue for control. instead of being identified by different colors or different colored stripes, they all had different three digit numbers printed the whole length. Electrical type people will understand when I say that the wiring harness in that genset’s control box was an absolute work of art.
the number labeled wire made cataloging the electrical system very easy. and I found it far cleaner then the typical method of making every single wire a unique color.
now thinking back, a friend of mine wired his home-built experimental aircraft with all white wires that had black numbers printed on them. the instrument console was very complicated, but that wire put in the hands of a very anal mechanic and it ended up being a beautiful electrical system.
I know I can just label the ends, but that doesn’t help when you are half way down the bundle trying to figure out whether the wire you are tracing goes to the left branch or the right branch.
I would like to use this stuff in future projects, but I was not able to find any suppliers for it. Maybe I just don’t know the industry standard name for this stuff, but my Google searches turned up nothing.
what is this wire called and where can I buy it.

Carol asks…
How do I store electrical charge into a confined off-grid source?
I am personally constructing a wind turbine and am currently creating the generators, but the key problem that I am facing is finding a suitable solution to store the electricity into a battery system to run my current grid from.
In a way, I wish to create a personal grid to generate my own electricity. Electricity bills and all that.
My home takes in around 2000 kWh monthly, and we’re trying to cut down (even if it’s by a small to slim margin) our main-grid intake. Therefore, I want to create a personal grid.
What will entail after I finish my design, and how can I make sure my stored electricity can go to a private, off-grid system for later usage?
Oh yes, I live close to a lake and our house is in a very open rural area. We’re so sick of being overcharged by our electrical companies and we have so much energy around us that we wanted some form of off-grid (I’m not the most educated of electricity) or battery system. In the end I want a system that I can power the entire house so that I can cut myself off of the main grid for a period of time and run my house entirely off my battery system.

rob answers:
You’ll have to buy special batteries. They tend to be pricey though, as they can range from $200 to $5000. If you want to look for more choices of batteries just go to solar panel stores.
You should make sure that you get enough wind all year long to make the system worthy (or enough sunlight if you consider a solar panel system). Make sure you do the math as you might end up spending more money in generating your own power than buying it from the utility companies.
Also, keep in mind that for power generation you’ll need a pretty large wind turbine so make sure that you have the space to install it or if you are even allowed to do so by the city/county.
If you are in Canada you will also be able sell power to the grid, but in the US you’ll have to be producing a large amount of power to even be considered to sell power.
Personally, unless your utility company is ripping you off or you live in the middle of nowhere, producing your own power is actually more expensive.

Diesel Engine parts distributor in Central Calif?
Hi — looking for specifically Lister Petter Diesel Generator parts distributor in central Cal. Electrical parts — cycle timers, a/c disconnects, etc.,. The main company (ListerPetter)is closed until after the 5th, and this machine powers my home, in the process of battery conversion project, and looking to finish this project between th holidays. THis is my hubbys endeavor — I am just the messenger — so I hope these questions make sense, please feel free to email me more details or anyhelp you think useful. Thanks everyone

Depending on where you live try the on line yellow pages. Especially in large farming areas, like Fresno or Bakersfield, Stockton etc. Their will be equipment parts shops that will help you find what you need if they do not have it.

What does Marginal mean?
I have won a bid on a hud home and placed down $1000,i am now reading the hud property conditon report. It says the Electrical was checked by a generator and the electrical system was in marginal condition at the time of the inspection.
We only had 15days to inspect the house, its to late.I was waiting for huds signed contract but i still have not got it.I didnt know they had signed on the 14th friday was our last day to have things turned on and tested.I printed out the property report to show my dad and noticed what it said.
That is right that is what it said, it was checked with a generator.
It says below it the house is not GFI protected.

rob answers:
Just means that it seems to be adequate, it may not have the amount of power up to today’s standards but it should be OK unless your have greater than average demands for power.
I highly recommend that you hire a professional building inspector before purchasing(closing) the house

Great New British Invention. But as usual British Bank turned me down?
I have just finished making 25 new type electrical generators which produces enough electricity to power a normal size house. The working units have been made from my original working models and they work very well and they do not use any power source as before such as coal, oil fuel.wind ,water, sun power, or waves etc, etc. It is really revolutionary and new, so for a laugh I took my model of the full size unit and showed it to a Bank manager who did not understand it and because he could not see openly what powered it he told me he did not think it would be commercial. What a total plonker and HIS BANK HAS LOST OUT. They should teach their staff that if someone comes in with a new idea then at least refer it to head office.I DON’T NEED THEIR MONEY I JUST WANTED TO GIVE A BRITISH BANK A CHANCE TO GET IN FIRST but no change there then . They did the same with WHITTLE AND THE JET ENGINE. I will probably sell the invention off to an American or Indian Company.British loss not mine. by the way before you great experts scoff and say does the household size unit work ? Yes it does and there are presently 25 unit powering 25 homes as we speak.
